Whether you are installing an air conditioning unit in a new-build house or replacing an old system in an existing building, there are certain boxes that you will need to ensure are checked if you want a system that maximizes efficiency and cooling potential. In this article, we will walk you through some of the principles that should be followed when fitting a new system.
1. Focus on Sizing
The size of the cooling unit that you go for will be vital to the overall performance rating of your HVAC system. Choosing a unit that is too large for the area you want to cool can result in short cycling, which leads to low efficiency, poor humidity control, and a decreased unit lifespan. Meanwhile, a unit that is too small will have to work overtime to cool a larger space or may not be able to do it at all.
Hitting the correct size of air conditioner for a given space relies on working out the area in square feet of the room that you want to cool. You then need to multiply this number by 25 BTU (British Thermal Unit) to work out the total BTU you will need your unit to generate.
